Bissell Street Water Tower Views Antique Postcard Collection Scott K. Williams, Florissant, Mo.
View from Old Water Tower (on N. Grand Ave.) at the newer red water tower (located a Bissell and Blair Avenues). The Mississippi River is in the far distance. Published by the St. Louis News Company, St. Louis. Made in Germany. No postmark. The Red brick water tower was built in 1885-1886. The old white Corinthian water tower was built in 1871 (see street scenes, Grand Ave.)
"Looking N>E. from Old Water Tower, St. Louis. No postmark but "place stamp here, domestic one cent" indicates this is a pre World War I Card (before Nov 1917 when postal rates went to 2 cents. Advertisement card for "Woman World" Magazine. |
